Inselsommer is a summer cultural festival on Ludwigshafen‘s Parkinsel in Germany. It features a varied program of outdoor concerts and visual arts.
Project inspiration is based on a memory of 1979: several families settled with all their belongings before the town hall of Naples after having been expelled from their home in a wave of speculative moves. They stayed in the open for months waiting for accommodation.
Memory says: Want to do right? Don‘t count on me./ I‘m a canal in Europe where bodies are floating / ... I‘m a family dispersed between night and fog / I‘m an immigrant tailor who says A coat / is not a piece of cloth only I sway / ... I‘m a corpse dredged from a canal in Berlin / a river in Mississippi I‘m a woman standing. Adrienne Rich, "Eastern War Time", An Atlas of the Difficult World. Poems, 1988-1991, New York, 1991, p. 44 (excerpt)
